One of my favourite things to do when I've nothing else to do (when I'm surfing the net like a bum when I should be busy doing something else) is searching the net for new bands. It doesn't even have to be a new band, just a band that is it new to me or that I've been meaning to check out and have finally gave them a listen. It's that tingly excited feeling that you get, when you realise that, yes! I love this band. Like last year when I went to see Kiss. Adam bought me the ticket, said I'd love them. I went to the gig knowing the obvious songs - I was made for lovin' you, Crazy Crazy Nights (the chorus anyway). Fell in love with them. And my obsession began.
One of my latest musical crushes are The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I recently bought their latest album from Banquet Records because if you bought the CD it came with a free Pains tote bag. Before them my musical crush, which is still ongoing, was Blood Red Shoes. Now this band I can claim being a fan of before any of my friends had even heard of them. Ignore the air of smugness and semi musical snobbery of that last statement, I used listen to Busted - forgive me. I blame my little sister and her contsant playing of the same songs over and over, you can't help but sing along when It's all you hear.
A favourite game of mine is to type random words or phrases into the search bar and see if it's the name of a band or a song title. You can find some absolute guff and nonsense about anything but on occasion you find a rare gem. Try it. It's fun, especially for the eternal procrastinators like myself.
